Justin Rose, the renowned professional golfer and 2013 U.S. Open champion, found himself on a different kind of turf this week as he took to the mound at Wrigley Field for a special occasion. In town for the BMW Championship, the second leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs, Rose had the honor of throwing out the first pitch at the Chicago Cubs’ game against their cross-town rivals, the Chicago White Sox. Despite not being a baseball player, Rose showed impressive form during his pitch, earning admiration from the crowd.

While the pitch didn’t quite hit the mark, Rose showcased his athletic prowess as he delivered the ball just a tad high and inside. Considering the potential for mishaps, his performance was commendable. In a lighthearted moment, Rose humorously remarked, “That was cool. It’s not making viral embarrassment.” He joined a long list of non-baseball celebrities who have taken the mound and faced similar challenges trying to find the plate.

Wrigley Field has witnessed famously wayward first pitches from the likes of Michael Jordan, Carl Lewis, 50 Cent, and John Wall, all of whom became viral sensations for their memorable, albeit less accurate, attempts. However, Rose managed to navigate the pressure and dodge potential embarrassment with his pitch.

With the first pitch successfully behind him, Rose can now shift his focus to his primary goal of clinching the FedEx Cup for the second time. In 2018, Rose narrowly missed out on the BMW Championship victory, losing to Keegan Bradley in a playoff at Olympia Fields. Nevertheless, he carried that strong performance into the Tour Championship in Atlanta the following week and emerged victorious.

This year, the former world No. 1 faces a tougher challenge as he currently sits at number 32 in the FedEx Cup standings. Only the top 30 players will advance to Atlanta for the ultimate golf showdown. Rose now finds himself with an uphill battle to secure a coveted spot among the top contenders.
